Why do some heirs always feel like they can't measure up?

Framework: The Never Enough · Chapter: Appendix 2: Archetypes

Kris Kluver, in The Dysfunctional Family Office, names this archetype the Never Enough. The Never Enough never meets expectations and always feels they're underperforming. They were often labeled early in the family, the screwup, the one who needs help, the one who isn't quite as sharp as their siblings. They internalized the label and live it forward. They carry shame that prevents them from showing what they're capable of. The pattern is one of the most quietly destructive in UHNW families because it operates from inside the heir, even when external evidence contradicts the label. The fix requires both individual work and structural work in the family. The heir has to recognize the label as a story, not a truth. The family has to actively retire the old label and acknowledge who the heir has actually become. The Never Enough pattern often pairs with the Seagull Leader founder to produce a Confirmed Label cycle. Chris Richardson works with rising generation heirs on this reset at thethirtyadvisors.com.
