Time, Treasure, and Talent. Kris Kluver's Balance Wheel, in The Dysfunctional Family Office, frames Resources as three distinct spokes that most UHNW founders collapse into one. Time asks whether you have adequate time for work, flexibility to take time off, time to support others, time for self-care, and time for non-work activities. Treasure asks the deeper financial questions. No desire for additional possessions. Comfortable living for at least six months without income. Financial stability that enables the life you want. Possessions that enable rather than constrain your life. Talent asks about discovering your natural talents, embracing them, investing in their development, having them recognized, and using them to create lasting impact. Most UHNW founders score high on Treasure and lower on Time and Talent. The realization usually surprises them. The wealth that took decades to build came at the cost of the other two spokes.
