My dad says he trusts me but overrides every decision I make, what do I do?

From: Ch 2: Discovering Hope

Name it directly to him, in private, the next time it happens. This is one of the most common rising-generation experiences in family business. The founder says trust. The behavior says override. The fix is to call it out, not in a meeting in front of the team but in a private conversation the next time it happens. Kris Kluver, in The Dysfunctional Family Office, watches Ben Christoff's son Phil do exactly this. Phil tells his father plainly that every decision he makes gets overruled while his father claims to trust him. The conversation breaks something open. Naming the pattern is the only way to interrupt it. Hoping the founder will notice on his own almost never works.
